Hampi, located in Hosapete in Karnataka, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is spread over 4,100 hectares with several hundreds of remains of structures of the great Vijayanagar empire such as temples, edifices, pillars, halls etc. Hampi is known to have existed during the reign of Emperor Ashoka. It was plundered and destroyed by Muslim rulers in 1565.

Masulipatnam is the modern day Machilipatnam, located in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. It is an ancient port town and was a settlement for European traders in the 16th century. In the present days, it is known for its handlooms as well as boat building and fisheries industries.
