x - 3y = 1 ..........(1)

3x + y = 3 .......(2)

Solving by elimination method -

Multiply eq. (1) with 3 and eq. (2) with 1 to make the coefficients of x equal.

3x - 9y = 3 ........(3)

3x + y = 3 ..........(2)

-10y = 0

y = 0

Substituting y in (3)

3x - 9(0) = 3

3x = 3

x = 1

Therefore, x = 1 and y = 0
