A shopkeeper was selling rice at a profit of 20%, however; he was unaware of the fact that his weighing machine was tampered and showed 950 grams for 1 kilogram. What is his actual profit percentage?
His machine shows 950 gm.
But the real weight is 1000 gm.
Let us assume that he has purchased 1000 gm for ₹P
1 gm purchase cost is ₹ P/1000
Though the actual weight is 1000 gm , the machine shows only 950 gm.
In each 1000 gm he looses 50 gm of rice.
Cost of 50 gm rice is ₹ 50*P/ 1000 .
Cost of 950 gm rice is ₹950 *P/ 1000.
For each 950 gm he gets a profit of ₹950 *0.2 *P/ 1000.
But indirectly he looses an amount of(capital) ₹ 50*P/ 1000
Real profit is only ₹950 * 0.2 *P/ 1000.-₹ 50*P/ 1000 = ₹140*P/1000
Actual profit percentage is 14%
