area of square - area of unshaded portion = area of shaded region.

area of sq = 14*14=196
.
to find the area of unshaded portion u have to do construction .as shown in above picture.
this is made by joining one square and four semicircles.

area of unshaded region= area of square + 4*area of semicircle ..

minus it by 196
