Find the area of the shaded region in the adjoining figure, it being given that ABOCD is a square of side 12 cm, CE = 4 cm, FA = 5 cm and BG = 5 cm.​

Answer:

We have side=12cm

CE=4cm,FA=5cm,BG=5cm

We know that area of square = side^2

Area of triangle

 =  \frac{1}{2}  \times b \times h \\

Area of shaded region = Area of square- area of AGF-area of BCG-area of DEF

 =  {12}^{2}  -  \frac{1}{2}  \times 7 \times 5 -  \frac{1}{2}  \times 5 \\  \\  \times 12 -  \frac{1}{2}  \times (12 - 4) \times (12 - 5)

 = 144 -  \frac{35 - 60 - 1}{2}  \times (8) \times (7) \\  \\  = 144  -  \frac{35 \times 60 \times 56}{2}  \\  \\  = 144 - \frac{151}{2}  \\  \\  = 144 - 75.5 =  {68.5cm}^{2}
