GIVEN:

Two sides of the triangle is 5 and 4

TO FIND:

The area of the triangle

SOLUTION:

By Pythagoras theorem

base²+height²= hypotenuse ²

Here, Hypotenuse= 5 unit

and base = 4 unit

Therefore, Height² = 5^²-4^²

or, h²= 25 - 16

or, h= 9

or, h= 3 unit

We know herons formula is

s(s-a) (s-b) (s-c)

where s is the semi perimeter of the triangle

here, s= 12/2= 6 unit

therefore, the area is

6(6-5) (6-4) (6-3)

= 6×1×2×3

= 36

= 6 units

ANSWER: 6 units

ANOTHER WAY TO FIND THE AREA:

Area of triangle=

 \frac{1}{2} \times base \: \times \: height

 = \frac{1}{2} \times 4 \times 3

=

 = 6
