let the denominator be x
then the num.will be x-4
fraction=x/x-4

new num.=x-4-1=x-5
new den.=x+3
new fraction=(x-5)/x+3

now acc to the q
new fraction=1/5(fraction)

x-5/x+3=x/x-4
by cross multiplicationx-5(x-4)=x(x+3)
x(x-4)-5(x-4)=x^2+3x
x^2-4x-5x+20=x^2+3x
x^2 will get cancelled
20=3x+9x
20=12x
x=20/12
5/3

original fraction is x-4/x
5/3-4/5/3
-7/5..............answer
