the greatest number which divides 285 and 1249 leaving remainder 9 and 7 would be first of all subtract the remainder from the given number that is 285 - 9 and 249 - 7 now take the HCF of the resultant number

285-9=276
1249-7=1242

HCF of 276 and 1242

138
