1st group : 1 - 10

2nd group : 11 - 20

3rd group : 21 - 30

4th group : 31 - 40

5th group : 41 - 50

6th group : 51 - 60

7th group : 61 - 70

8th group : 71 - 80

9th group : 81 - 90

10th group : 91 - 100

In the 1 , 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 groups there is only one 9 in each group. ( 9,19,29,39,49,59,69,79)

In the 9th group, there are two 9’s(89,90) and ten in the 10th group (91,92,93,94,95,96,97,98,99)

Hence, total number of 9’s between 1 - 100 = No of 9’s in 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 & 8 group + No of 9’s in 9th and 10th group

= 8 + 2 + 10

= 20 ( total number of 9’s between 1 - 100 )
