x+y =4. __________________ (i)

2x-y=2. __________________ (ii)

Get by adding (i) and (ii)

(x+y) + (2x-y) = 4 + 2

or, x+y+2x-y = 6

or, 3x = 6.

so, x = 2.

now,

x+y = 4

or, 2 + y = 4.

so, y = 2.

Step-by-step explanation:

x + y = 4 \\ 2x - y = 2 \\ multiplying \: equation \: (1) \: by \: 2 \\ 2(x + y = 4) \\ 2x + 2y = 8 \\ subtracting \: equation \: (2)from(1) \\ 2x + 2y = 8 \\ 2x - y = 2 \\ y = 6 \\ therefore \: substituting \: the \: value \: of \: y \: in \: equation \: (1) \\ x + y = 4 \\ x + 6 = 4 \\ x = 4 - 6 \\ x = - 2 \\
