=(x+1)(x-1)
x+1 and x-1 are factors of p(x)
now,
p(-1) =0 and p(1)=0
p(-1) = -14-(-1)3+7(-1)2+a(-1)+b =0 and p(1) = 14-13+7.12+a.1+b = 0
=>1+1+7-a+b=0 and 1-1+7+a+b=0
=>9-a+b=0 and 7+a+b=0
=>-a+b=-9.... (1) and a+b=-7.....(2)
on subtracting (1) from (2), we get == >
a+b-(-a+b)=-7-(-9)
a+b+a-b=-7+9
=>2a=2
=>a=1
putting a=1, in (1), we get,
-1+b=-9
b=9+1= 10
