SOLUTION

Given,

x-1 is a factor

so, x-1= 0

=) x= 1

putting the value of x in equation p(x)= x^2 +x +k

=) p(1)= (1)^2 +(1)+ k=0

=) p(1)= 1+1+k=0

=) p(1)= 2+k= 0

=) 2+k= 0

=) k= -2

hope it helps
