Given:

  • Quadratic Equation → 2x² + kx + 2 = 0

To find:

Value of k = ?

Solution:

Since the polynomial has equal roots, the value of discriminant would be 0.

D = 0

⇒ b² - 4ac = 0

⇒ b² = 4ac

Here:

  • a = 2
  • b = k
  • c = 2

Substitute these values in the above equation.

b² = 4ac

⇒ k² = 4 (2) (2)

⇒ k² = 16

⇒ k = √16

⇒ k = ±4

Since the value of k is given as a positive value,

∴ The value of k is +4
