Question :

Find the value of p if the value of x⁴ -3x³ - px - 5 is equal to 23 when x = -2.

Solution :

p(x) = x⁴ -3x³ - px - 5

Putting x= - 2

\tt \implies p(-2) = (-2)⁴-3(-2)³ - p(-2) - 5

\tt \implies 23 = 16 + 24 +2p - 5

\tt \implies 23 = 2p + 35

\tt \implies 2p = 23 - 35

\tt \implies 2p = -12

\tt \implies p = -6

Value of p is - 6.
