Given :

external voltage = 30V

PN diode is ideal.

To find:

V_{AB}  ?

Solution:

There are 2 loops in the figure.

When PN diode is forward biased it acts as a conductor .

Hence it can be replaced by a wire .

Draw the equivalent  resistance diagram.

firstly 2 resistors are in parallel

.\frac{1}{R} = \frac{1}{10}  + \frac{1}{10}

 R = 5

then the two resistors are in series. hence R = R1 + R2

R_{eq}= 15ohm

V = IR (ohms law)

I = \frac{30}{15} = 2 amp

voltage drop across R =10 ohms = 10×2 = 20V

hence

V_{AB}  = 10V

voltage across AB is equal to 10V.
