Explanation: If we observe the set-up carefully (for convience, think that you are streching the points 'A' and 'B'), the systems above and below the points is in series combination (lets call the upper and lower system of resistors as R_{1} and R_{2} ), which are ultimately in parallel combination.

So, the first step is to calculate the resistance of R_{1} and R_{2} ,

R_{1} = 2.4 + 4 = 6.4 ohm

R_{2} = 2.4 + 1 = 3.4 ohm

Secondly, we will find the net resistace by the formula of parallel combination,

1/R = 1/R_{1} + 1/R_{2}

1/R = 1/6.4 + 1/3.4

After solving it, we get,

R = 2.22 ohm ≅ 2 ohm
