no. of machines is inversely proportional to amount of time.
therefore,
5 = k × 1/36
k = 5 × 36 = 180
if 3 machines are left,
3 = k × 1/x
3 = 180/x
x = 180/3 = 60
therefore, if 2 machines break down the job will be completed in 60 minutes.

rohanharolikar: it's inversely proportional. the more machines that work, the less time is required.
rohanharolikar: for example, if you and 3 others work to paint a wall, it would take less time than if you alone painted it
rohanharolikar: it's the same thing
rohanharolikar: now do you understand
sidsha: yes thanks a lot
sidsha: thankyou very much
rohanharolikar: no prob
sidsha: what is k in the problem
rohanharolikar: k is the constant of proportionality
rohanharolikar: the quotient of one term and the other is always constant

Answer:

60 minutes.

Step-by-step explanation:

= x × 1/36 = 5

x × 5×36 = 180

if three machines are left ,

= x × 1/x = 3

180x = 3

x = 180/3 = 60 minutes.

I hope it will help u .
