Yes it is true. The food habits of people depend upon the agriculture of a place .  The Agriculture depends on the weather conditions of the place

  Example -  In  India there are many places.   The people in South India eat Rice but the people in North India eat  Chapattis ( Wheat ). In North India the weather is  very cold and the chapattis made up of wheat suits the best for North Indian's. If North Indians eat Rice like south Indians , they get sick. In South India the weather is moderate ( weather is not too cold or not too hot in South India, its moderate ) and Rice suits the best for South Indians. If South Indians eat Chapattis made up of wheat like North Indians , they get sick.  

So it's true.
