For a moles of gas ,Van der Weals equation is (p = (a)/(V^(-2))) (V - b) = nRTltbr. Find the dimensions of a a and b , where p = pressure of gas ,V = volume of gas and T = temperature of gas .

The answer for your question is M^-1L^5T^-2, where

M is the mass

L is the length

T is the time.

We know,

Vanderwaals eq is a modified form of the ideal gas law i.e,

PV=nRT.

Therefore, P+a/V^2 will be having dimensions same as pressure and V-b will be having dimensions same as volume.

So, the dimensions of

a= M^-1 L^5 T^-2

and b= L^3
