SpeechWords have the power to break a person’s heart, inspire a nation, lift a friend’s spirits, destroy a child’s self-esteem, propel a man to the pinnacle of power and bring a fresh smile to a tear-drenched face. Many great leaders used this power to transform the history of the world. This great power is unleashed when it is used in a public oration. It is the oldest of political weapons, whose power has never waned. In this era of Web casts when media assaults us in bits and bytes, is it really possible that the oldest of political tools - the spoken word - is still one of the most powerful? Yes, it is!

Public speaking is the proces ss of speaking to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners. It is a flawless, well structured talk, well delivered and intended to inform, educate, empower and entertain. Many people have the capacity to talk in several languages, but all are not good public speakers.

While preparing an effective speech use a variety of words specific to the topic. Avoid difficult, high sounding and bombastic words. Each paragraph should have one major idea conveyed in a single sentence called topic sentence. All other sentences should contain supporting ideas. There should be proper arrangement and inter-relation of ideas and sentences.

A speech should have three sections: 1) The Introduction presents topic and major points of the speech. 2) The body of the speech contains main points of the speech with focus on details, providing all the informative or supportive evidence to explain and support the points. 3) The conclusion of the speech summarizes the main points of speech and stresses the most important details to make a lasting impact.
