FORMATION OF BLEACHING SODA IN SHORT:-

It is manufactured by the action of chlorine on dry slaked lime, Ca(OH)2 at 40oC. This is the Odling view about itsformation. There is another view proposed by Clifford according to which bleaching powder is a mixture of calcium hypochlorite and basic calcium chloride.

It is prodused by the action od cholrie on dry slaked lime. it is represnted as CaOCl2 though the actual comosition is quite complex

Ca(OH)2 + Cl2 -----> CaOCl2 + H2O
