Formation of NaOH by castner Kellner cell

In castner-kellner method NaOH is prepared by the electrolysis of aqueous solution of NaCl (brine). i.e. 25gm of NaCl is dissolved in 75gm of water. Flowing layer of mercury (Hg) at bottom of tank serves as cathode. the sodium deposited at mercury forms SODIUM AMALGAM.
