Question:

From a bag containing 10 black and 12 white balls, a ball is drawn at random. What is the probability that it is black?

Given:

  • Black balls in Bag= 10
  • White balls in Bag= 12

To Find:

  • Probability that ball drawn from bag is Black.

Formula to be used:

\sf{P(A)=\large\frac{Favourable\: number\: of\: elementary\: events}{Total\: Number\: of\: elementary\: events}}

Where,

  • P(A) is probability of happening occurence of event A.

Solution:

\rightarrow Total Number of balls in Bag= 10+12 = 22 Balls.

\therefore Total Number of elementary events= 22

\rightarrow There are 10 Black balls in Bag.

\therefore Favourable number of elementary events= 10

\\ \dashrightarrow\mathsf{P(A)=\large\frac{Favourable\: number\: of\: elementary\: events}{Total\: Number\: of\: elementary\: events}}

\dashrightarrow\mathsf{P(Getting\: a\: Black\: Ball)=\large\frac{10}{22}}

Hence, The probability that the ball drawn from bag is Black is \frac{10}{22}
