A cocoon is the outer casing of the moth or larva that gives rise to the rearing of silkworms, and also of the ultimate birth and growth of the butterfly.

They may be soft, opaque, transparent and translucent and their texture is generally slightly thick or absolutely thin.

The silk that is attached to the cocoon of the silkmoth is used to rear silks and this highly accentuates the farming of silk in the silkworm rearing sector.
