  • That depends on how you measure it. One kilogram of diesel and petrol contain roughly the same amount of energy, however diesel is significantly denser. As a consequence, one liter diesel is heavier than one liter of gasoline, and contains more energy.

Fuels with higher calorific value are considered as efficient fuels, because -

• According to the definition of an efficient fuel,it should produce high amount of heat energy by the consumption of the less amount (mass) of fuel material.

• And,a higher calorific value will ensure the high amount of energy production from the less amount (mass) of fuel material. Because, calorific value of a material and the heat produced from one unit of mass of that material are always directly proportional with each other.

• That's why,a fuel which has higher calorific value will always considered as an efficient fuel.
