It migrates towards the poles of the cells(during prophase)... in animal cells. (they are not present in plants)
and initiate cell divisions...
the spindle fibres arise from asters and they,being contractile in nature cause karyokinesis.

The asters are the radiating microtubules, coming from centrosome, they , takes part in forming the spindle fibres, in which the sister chromatids gets attached,during the prophase period of cell division they go thepolesof the cell
