It is used for revitalising potency and the digestive system, rejuvenating longevity, treat constipation, reduce fever, purify the blood, reduce cough, alleviate asthma, strengthen the heart, benefit the eyes, stimulate hair growth, enliven the body, and enhance intellect.

Experimental studies have reported that it has properties which are efficacious in the treatment and prevention of cancer. In future research may be taken up to use it as a cancer preventive and therapeutic drug in humans.
