The gas used in extinguishing fire is carbon dioxde. This play a major role. we know that oxygen is essential for burning and burning doesn't take place without it. Carbon dioxide helps to take oxygen away from the fire which helps to stop burning.

The gas used in fire extinguisher for stopping fire is carbon dioxide. It's role is very major. We all know that oxygen is essential for burning. with the help of carbon dioxide the oxygen due to which fire is there is replaced by carbon dioxide and without oxygen fire cannot occur so fire gets stop.
