Diffusion can also happen in liquids. This is because the particles in liquids can move around each other, which means that eventually they are evenly mixed. This is by diffusion. Diffusion in liquids is slower than diffusion in gases because the particles in a liquid move more slowly

Diffusion in gases occurs very fast because the spaces between their particles is more than the particles of solids or liquids. So when any other particle of smell comes in the contact with the particles of a gas , vibrating of gaseous particles attain fast movements and quickly reach to our nostrils.
