The hind brain contains many vital structures including the Medulla Oblongata, the Pons (the link between the cerebellum, forebrain and mid-brain) and the majority of the cranial nerves, III to XII. ... Nuclei within the hind brain are also responsible for the reflexive control of posture and eye movement

Structure and function of Hindbrain

Structure of hindbrain:

  • The "Hindbrain" is composed of the cerebellum on the dorsal side and Pons and medulla which is collectively called brainstem on the ventral side.
  • The "cerebellum has two hemispheres" and also has a grey matter called the cerebral cortex, and white matter called cerebellar medulla.
  • Pons is located above the medulla.

Functions of hindbrain:

  • It is involved in the coordination of muscular movements and maintenance of equilibrium.
  • The pons of hind brain acts as bridge between cerebral cortex and cerebellum and sends an impulse.
