The Ripening Hormone =====Fruits such as cherries and blueberries do not produce much ethylene and it doesn't influence their ripening. Ethylene is thought of as the aging hormone in plants. In addition to causing fruit to ripen, it can cause plants to die.

Dear Student -

◆ Ripening hormone -

  • Ethylene gas is also known as the ripening hormone.
  • It is a natural plant hormone.
  • Ethylene is required to trigger fruit-ripening.
  • Based on production of ethylene during ripening, fruits are divided into climacteric & non-climacteric fruits.
  • Fruit ripening can be controlled by blocking effect of ethylene by synthetic MCP-1.

Hope this helped you...
