Female part of the flower that contains one or more carpel is called as gynoecium. In apocarpus gynoecium the carpels remains separated whereas the carpels are fused in the case of syncarpous gynoecium. The apocarpous is primitive gynoceium type whereas the syncarpous is the advance type. In apocarpus gynoecium the ovary is unicellular and in the case of syncarpous gynoecium the ovary is either unicellular or multicellular. An ovary contains a single placenta in case of apocarpus gynoecium and an ovary contains more than one placenta in the case of the syncarpous gynoecium.
