• The distinct features of Calcutta include that it had access to sea ports and was commercial and business hub

• But later the British realized that the northern parts had arable land and invaders were entering through north to try to take this land

• So they shifted their capital to New Delhi which lies in the centre and where it was easy to govern the country from.
