It is the tale of two boys Nicola and Jacopo who through their kinda sacrifice and courage force the narrator to address them as Gentlemen! Both of them were quite young , still they took the task of getting their tuberculosis inflicted sister treated on their shoulders .
→ Destiny played cruel with them . First they lost their father , then their home . to add on , they discovered that their sister was suffering from tuberculosis of spine . Though they had always known a cultured and comfortable life , still they didn't look for shoulders to lean upon. With conviction and courage , they faced all the odds that life presented ! Since then , they did all types of Jobs from selling wild strawberries , polishing shoes to hawking newspapers etc. They spent nothing on themselves . In a way , their life was dedicated to the service of their sick sister .

It's a story by A.J Cronin. It's main characters are Nicola and Jacopo who treat their sister suffering from Tuberculosis of spine ! They don't ask for help from others at all . They work all the day tirelessly for sister . This makes the narrator call them as Gentlemen still they are quite young
