Give one chemical test each to distinguish between the following pairs of compounds :-

i) Ferrous nitrate and Calcium nitrate.

ii) Ferric chloride and Cuperic chloride.

(1) Fe(NO)2 is green in color it'll turn yellow due to Fe3+ ion upon addition of KMnO4

5Fe(NO3)2 + 1KMnO4 + 8HNO3 - 1Mn(NO3)2 + 5Fe(NO3)3 + 1K(NO3) + 4H20

Calcium nitrate will not chemically react with KMnO4

(2) ferric chroride will not react with H2S

while cupric chloride will form a black

precipitate CuS

CuCl2 + H2S - CUS + 2HCI

(3) zinc nitrate won't react with H2S however Lead nitrate will form a black precipitate

H2S + Pb(NO3)2 - PbS+ 2H(NO)3
