The basis of freedom in any country, is the freedom of speech for its citizens, liberty of its press and freedom of association.
Mahatma Gandhi underpinned these important tenets, that were getting suppressed under the colonial rule of the British. The British had the power to censor press and thereby gag public opinion. Similarly, they introduced laws, which curtailed freedom of speech and association.
Mahatma Gandhi stressed to the nation, the importance of getting back freedom from the British and regaining these rights, through the Non-Cooperation Movement.
