Give the reasons for the following : (a) CN−CN− ions is known but CP−CP−ion is not known (b) NO2NO2dimerizes to form N2O4N2O4 (c) ICIICI is more reactive that I2I2

Solution :
(a) Nitrogen being smaller in size forms pπ−pπpπ−pπ multiple bonding with carbon .
So CN−CN− ion is known , but phosphors does not form pπ−pπpπ−pπ bond as it is larger in size .
(b) This is because NO2NO2 is an odd electron molecule and therefore gets dimerized to stable N2O4N2O4
(c) Because ICIICI has less bond dissociation enthalpy than I2
