there was a majority of Sinhala which is 81% and minority of Tamils.which is 18%and Tamils are divided into two groups which is 1-indian Tamils(7%) 2-srilanka tamil(13%)and the other 1% is christian which are both Sinhala and tamils

74% OF SINHALA SPEAKERS AND 18% OF TAMIL SPEAKERS. AMOUNG TAMILS THERE ARE TWO SUB-GROUPS , SRILANKAN TAMILS AND INDIAN TAMILS.

MOST OF THE SINHALA SPEAKING PEOPLE ARE BUDDHIST, WHILE MOST OF THE TAMILS ARE HINDUS OR MUSLIMS. THERE ARE ABOUT 7% CHRISTIANS, WHO ARE BOTH TAMIL AND SINHALA.
