Ca and Mg metals react with nitric acid to give corresponding nitrate salts.
Ca + 2 HNO3 ---------> Ca(NO3)2 + H2
Mg + 2 HNO3 --------> Mg(NO3)2 + H2
The reaction with Ca is explosive as H2 is generated very quickly.
