Then, y = 2x + 12, since Riya's mother's age is 12 more than twice Riya's age.

Eight years hence, their ages will be

y+8 = 3(x+8) - 20

Substituting y = 2x + 12 in the second equation, we get

2x+12+8 = 3x + 24 - 20

or 2x+20 = 3x+4

Therefore, 3x-2x = x = 20 - 4 = 16 years.

And y = 2*16+12 = 32+12 = 44 years.

Therefore, Riya's current age is 16 years and her mother's current age is 44 years.
