Solution:

Given,

→ p(x) = x⁶ - x⁵ - x⁴ - x³ - x² - x + 1

We have to check whether 1 is a zero of p(x) or not. 1 is a zero of p(x) if and only if p(1) = 0

Now,

→ p(1) = (1)⁶ - (1)⁵ - (1)⁴ - (1)³ - (1)² - 1 + 1

→ p(1) = 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 + 1

→ p(1) = 2 - 5

→ p(1) = -3

∆ As p(1) ≠ 0, therefore 1 is not a zero of p(x).

Answer:

  • 1 is not a zero of p(x).
