Goldstein's experiments which involved passing high voltage electricity through gases at very low pressure resulted in the discovery of proton.

Explanation:

In 1886, Eugen Goldstein observed that a glow from the end of the tube near a cathode was emitted from cathode rays with perforated cathode. He concluded that other than traveling from the negatively charged cathode towards the positively charged anode, there is another way that travels in an opposite direction from anode to the cathode in addition to the electrons or cathode rays. Since these rays can pass through holes, channels inside the cathode, they were named canal rays by Goldstein which released protons.
