Grasslands are open areas of land where grasses or grasslike plants are the dominant species. Other forms of vegetation such as trees are rare in grasslands because they are not suited to thrive in the grassland's dry environment.

DescriptionGrasslands are areas where the vegetation is dominated by grasses; however, sedge and rush families can also be found along with variable proportions of legumes, like clover, and other herbs. Grasslands occur naturally on all continents except Antarctica. Grasslands are found in most ecoregions of the Earth.
