Green plants synthesis food for themselves by the process of Photosynthesis.
Explanation:
- The main requirements of Autotrophic organisms are carbon ( in the form of CO2 ) and energy ( in the form of Carbohydrates ) which are fulfilled by the process of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis : The process by which green plants make their food in the pressence sunlight and chlorophyll.
- Note : Carbohydrates are utilised for providing energy to the plant. The carbohydrates which are not used immediately are stored in the form of starch which serves as the internal energy reserve to be used as and when required by the plant.
- The following events take place during photosynthesis :
- Absorption of light energy ( by chlorophyll ).
- Splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen ( photolysis of water ).
- Conversion of light energy to chemical energy ( in the form of ATP and NADPH).
- Reduction of CO2 to Carbohydrates ( assimilation of carbon) .
6CO2+6H20⸻➤C6H12O6 +6O2
☆ In the pressence of sunlight and chlorophyll.
- CO2 - Carbondioxide
- C6H12O6- Glucose
- O2 - oxygen
