Guru Arjun Dev was the fifth Sikh guru. He was the first Guru of the Sikhism religion to be born in a Sikh family. He made a compilation of the hymns composed by the other four Gurujis before him along with those of other saints. This became the first Sikh scripture and was known as Adi Granth.
He was arrested on the basis of orders of the Mughal emperor Jahangir. Guru Arjun Dev refused to comply to the emperor’s orders to convert to Islam. This led to him being tortured and finally executed in 1606 CE.
