Acids and bases cannot simply be described as "better". However, acids have interesting, and differing qualities.

Here are some quick interesting facts:

  • Acids have a pH less than 7, and bases have a pH greater than 7.
  • Acidity comes from H+ ions, and alkalinity comes from OH- ions.
  • Acids taste sour, and bases taste bitter.
  • The pH scale is logarithmic, meaning that every increase or decrease by 1 is a change by a factor of 10.
  • Acids turn blue litmus paper red, and bases turn red litmus paper blue.
  • When acids and bases come into contact, they undergo a neutralization reaction.
