AB = AC = x

BC = 12 cm

Perimeter Δ ABC = 32

x + x + 12 = 32

2x = 32 - 12

x = \frac{20}{2}

x = 10 cm

AB = AC = 10 cm

AD = \sqrt{AD^{2} - BD^{2}  }        (an altitude bisects the base of an isoceles triangle)                                

       = \sqrt{100 - 36} \\\

= \sqrt{64\\} \\AD = 8 cm\\

Area = \frac{1}{2} × Base × Height

Area = \frac{1}{2} × BC × AD                              

        = \frac{1}{2} × 12 × 8

        = 6 × 8

        = 48 cm²
