Democracy can be reformed by the simple step of inviting the people to meet with their peers and agree on the individuals best qualified to represent them in their government.

Given the size of the population, that is best done in a pyramidal process where people discuss public issues in small groups and advance the individuals best equipped to resolve the most pressing problems to meet with the choices of other groups. This results in repeated examination of candidates for public office by competitors who can be relied on to only agree on people who can be trusted to serve the common good.

That won't happen on a state-wide or national scale any time soon, but we can certainly start it in our local governments where it will take root and spread
