The one is ROTATION and the other one is REVOLUTION...
ROTATION:
when the earth rotates on its own axis without
changing the direction its known as ROTATION.
One rotation means one day on earth.
REVOLUTION:
When earth revolves around the earth then its known
as revolution.
One revolution around the earth is equal to one
year on th earth.

direction...Earth rotates counterclockwise as viewed from above the north pole. This is why the sun appears to rise on the eastern horizon and sets in the western horizon. This is by no means the same as saying east to west
