A complex sentence is a sentence which has one independent clause and one dependent clause i.e. subordinate clause.
Independent clause can itself be called a complete sentence but subordinate clause in spite of having a subject and verb cannot be complete unless supported by independent clause.
There can be many complex sentences made from ‘he glanced at his watch’. One such sentence is
He glanced at his watch and wondered why his friend had not yet reached the venue.
